Eye Got It!
With the sun sneaking in more often in the winter months, I really am a fan of Eyebobs' new collection of eyeclips that turn your stylish pair of glasses into sunglasses.
Julie Alinson is the founder of Eyebobs, and her entire collection of sunreaders and reading glasses are super stylish. As she would say, these aren’t your Aunt Ethyl's readers.
Most items are under $100.
If you're like me, your skincare requires a special unique touch. Not every product will do the trick for you. Kiehl’s is aware of this, and with all their products, they want to make sure that you get the best ingredients that will actually do what they are supposed to do.
Last October, they launched Apothecary Preparations, a personalized skincare product that addresses an individual’s unique skin concerns. You can visit the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago to try it out.
You meet with a skincare expert from Kiehl’s, and they give you a through consultation and diagnosis. From there, you are able to create a personalized formula to focus on two significant skin concerns. Options include: wrinkles, redness, rough texture, large pores and dullness. Once you choose the targeted complexes, the personalized components are sealed in a box with a unique customer number so you can reorder your unique blend nationwide.
When you arrive at home, right before your first use, you mix the formulas together to create your unique serum. I have been using my blend for more than a month and have seen a significant decrease in redness in my skin, and the formula has been hydrating.

What is the perfect meal to eat post workout?
When you eat is just as critical as what you eat. Your muscles are like dry sponges after an intense workout, primed to absorb recovery-building nutrients. Optimal time to refuel is within 30 – 45 minutes after your workout.
Dynamic Duo: A combination of quality carbs and protein are essential to an effective post-workout meal or snack. With intense workouts, muscles become depleted of glycogen (a form of sugar stored in muscles to be used for fuel). Muscles are actually broken down during the workout. Carbs and protein aid in the repair and rebuilding of muscle on a cellular level. A quality fat source also helps your post-workout metabolism to remain high. You Gotta Like it! Your choices matter. If you don’t like a particular combination of carbs, protein and fat, chances are you won’t stick to having it.
Post-workout snack/meal suggestions:
1 cup of Greek Nonfat yogurt ; 1 Tbs whey protein powder, ½ cup blueberries, 1/3 cup High Fiber (7-10grams/serving) cereal, small handful sliced almonds.
Open Faced Egg Sandwich:
2 scrambled eggs, a pinch of ground flaxseed on 1 slice toasted Ezekiel or whole grain bread, topped with 2 slices of tomato.
Chicken Breast Wrap:
2 oz grilled chicken breast in a whole grain wrap with shredded lettuce and tomato and 1 Tbsp salad dressing, top with 1/4 cup shredded cheese.
A banana with 2 tbs peanut butter
Veggies & Hummus:
1 cup of raw chopped veggies (like celery, carrots, cucumbers), 2 Tbsp hummus on whole-grain crackers
Tuna & Quinoa:
Mix a can of tuna with low-fat mayo and ½ cup quinoa
Mixed Berry Smoothie:
Blend 1 cup frozen mixed berries, 1 cup plain fat-free yogurt, 1 tbsp honey, 1 cup skim, rice or almond milk, 1 scoop of whey protein powder, 1 Tsp flaxseed, and 1 cup ice. Blend until smooth.
Offering the widest selection of equipment in the tanning industry, Unlimited Tan has added seven locations throughout the Chicagoland area. I got to interview Unlimited Tan CEO Eric Anderson about spray tanning do's and don'ts.
I've never had a spray tan; what is something that I should do in preparation? Should I wax? Get a facial?
Prior to receiving your spray tan, you will want to shower, shave and exfoliate. This doesn’t have to be done immediately before the tan, just sometime before. It is best to come in with fresh, clean skin, so no makeup, lotion, deodorant, perfume, etc. and certainly no oils! Exfoliate your skin, particularly the knees and elbows, as well as the neck, chest, shins and face. Also remember to cover any scabs or recent scars with Vaseline. You should avoid waxing the day before or day of a spray tan, because the newly exposed skin may tint to a different shade than other parts of your face or body that were not waxed.
Is it OK to get a spray tan the day of an event?
We recommend getting a spray tan a few days before an event so that you are able to adjust to your new look and make sure that your color is balanced so you feel most confident. This also allows you some time to adjust your makeup application routine for your new glow.
Is it OK to get a spray tan and go swimming after? Will the salt water or chlorine cause the tan to streak?
After a spray tan, it is best to stay dry for at least eight hours. After that, you should be safe to shower or swim in fresh water. As for salt water or chlorine, both will inevitably make a tan fade more quickly.
How long should the application stay on? If I want a consistent look for a season, when should I go back for another application?
You can expect the tan to last anywhere from 5-7 days, depending on aftercare. After your sunless tan has developed, you want to stay hydrated and moisturized. Remember, the tan is only developed in the outermost layer of skin, so if your skin is dry, you shave often or use body scrub, the tan will fade more quickly. Use a gentle body wash (such as VersaSpa body cleanser) and avoid harsh washcloths and loofahs.
How do I know what shade to choose?
Our tanning advisors will help you choose the best shade based on your existing skin color and desired results. It is always best to start off with a lighter shade, as results can be quite dramatic when using darker shades.
What else do I need to know?
Before stepping into the booth, apply barrier cream to cuticles, any patches of dry or rough skin or anywhere else you do not want the solution to be absorbed. The FDA recommends you to wear nose filters, eye wear, disposable undergarments, and apply lip balm to create a barrier. When wearing a hair net, be sure to expose the hairline and the ears to ensure full coverage. Use the perfecting spray we offer in the booth with your sunless tan - the perfecting spray works to balance the pH of your skin, using proteins and amino acids to ensure your body will be most receptive to the spray solution. It will also accelerate the development time from the standard 4-6 hours down to 2-4 hours.

I've been a Natori lingerie gal all my life. Their bras offer enough support to work well for a well-endowed woman like myself but still look feminine and sexy.
I love the way the Feathers line fits. Somehow, I have been a stranger to the Panache line of bras, and I'm glad I stumbled upon them. The designs are feminine and sexy, and one of my favorites is their Envy line. The balconette bra and high-waist brief will seduce anyone.
There is a mix of floral and "menswear-inspired" designs, such as the houndstooth pattern. The balconette bra gives the breast a great lift - a definite must for the holiday party season.

Kalwinski is trained in herbalism, aromatherapy and natural botanical perfume- and soap-making. She created Tatra from her lifelong interest in olfaction
and her affinity for apothecaries. She sources the finest ingredients available: U.S.-grown soy wax, cotton-core wicks, fine fragrance, olive, and
essential oils. Her aromatherapeutic blends are rooted in nature and plant essences and inspired by seasonal sensory pleasures.
My favorite two items by Tatra are the bath salts in Blissed and Cold Comfort, both $11. Apparently, the fellows really love the Hygge candle ($23), a unique blend of teakwood and tobacco, and I agree it's a great scent. You can go online to stock up on this candle. Now, where do we stock up on the men?

Interview with Dr. Howard Sobel
With winter approaching, we asked Dr. Howard Sobel, a leading authority on dermatology for more than 30 years, questions about DDF (Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula) products and a healthy skin regimen.
His Park Avenue Skin and Spa Center ( http://www.drsobel.com/) provides personalized services tailored to your skin, while DDF allows patients the ability to care for their skin at home. The DDF system targets five specific skin concerns, including initial signs of aging, advanced signs of aging, acne, sensitive skin and hyperpigmentation. Using a combination of antioxidants, cleansers, and surface-penetrating hydration, the system helps reveal your healthiest skin.
I'm a huge fan of DDF's Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew retailing for $42. This moisturizer seemed to quickly absorb into my skin, leaving it hydrated, and there was no sticky residue or sheen. It is ideal for underneath makeup and primers, especially during the harsh winter months.
Here's how my conversation with Dr. Sobel played out:
I haven't started using anti-aging creams yet. What age is recommended for one to use such products?
Any age ranging between 18 and 21 is a good time to start. Oftentimes, consumers believe that “anti-aging” is only meant for women who already show signs of aging, such as wrinkles, etc. However, the earlier you start, the better. Starting at a younger age will help with prevention.
With winter approaching, what should be my daily routine to keep my skin healthy and not chapped?
Cleansing and moisturizing on a daily basis.
In addition to using DDF, what are a few things that each of us can do to improve the health of our skin?
Drink tons of water, make sure to get an appropriate amount of sleep, eat foods rich in antioxidants and, of course, wearing sunscreen.
Are there any trends/innovations that we should look out for in the upcoming year in dermatological products?
A lot of people are trying to simplify their skincare routine. It seems to be a new trend. My suggestion is for people to invest in a moisturizer with sunscreen to minimize steps, or even a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. I find a lot of my patients are interested in products with less chemicals, something more natural. There is a great emphasis on prevention, rather than correcting. Starting your skincare routine younger is more in tune with skincare trends these days. The earlier you start, the less damage done.

No Towel Required
Efficiency is key for me. When I discovered a Jergens skincare line that actually relies on you to be wet after the shower, this game changer was something that I wanted to try.
You don't need to dry after a shower because the Wet Skin Moisturizer is formulated to intensely hydrate and respond to water, immediately absorbing and
locking in with no sticky residue. Argan Oil, known as liquid gold because of its healing properties, is a key ingredient. I'm a fan of Almond Essence,
but it also comes in another scent, Original Cherry.
Zo It Is!
Think the passing of summer means that you can put away the sunscreen? Well, that's just not "Zo," says renowned dermatologist and author Dr. Zein Obagi.
Dr. Obagi has developed a line of sunscreen under his ZO Skin Health line that should be part of your daily regimen, even though the leaves are turning. The Oclipse Sunscreen and Primer provides daily multi-defense protection from UVA, UVB and high-energy visible (HEV) light. An exclusive 12-hour time-release antioxidant complex guards against photo damage, and over time, it diminishes the appearance of fine lines. Best to apply this 15 minutes before exposure to the sun and reapply every 2 hours when in the sun.

Who would think that wearing mascara would improve the color of your eyelashes? Rimmel has uncovered a formula that makes bare lashes darker over time.
Rimmel’s Volume Colourist Mascara creates a better look, with or without mascara. The semi-permanent lash-tint complex progressively blackens bare lashes every time you wear it so that from two weeks onwards of regular usage, your naked lashes will look darker from the root to the tip.
For $9.49, this is an investment that leaves a voluminous hyper-black lash look.

Korres Black Pine Mineral Bar is my first introduction to the Black Pine Firming, Lifting and Antiwrinkle Collection. This bar of soap, which is good for all skin types (Normal, Oily, Combination, Dry and Sensitive), cleans, moisturizes and refines skin’s texture.
With extensive research, the Korres Research Lab in Athens, Greece, discovered that powerful black pine polyphenols maintain the elasticity of the connective tissue better than all other polyphenols studied, boosting skin firmness, lifting face contour, resisting deep wrinkles and preventing sagging.
OK. What are polyphenols? Does it really matter? They work wonders.
This two-in-one bar cleans and polishes the texture of your skin. It kept to its promise, and after one use, my skin was noticeably softer and smoother. This product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is not tested on animals.
