Bat for Lashes -- The Hunted Man (Capital Records)
By Amanda Motyka
Did you ever go into something hoping it would be better than it was? I rarely do, because I am an eternal pessimist, but I tried with this album. I really, really did. But, it’s not so great.
Bat for Lashes, a.k.a. Natasha Khan, is a poor man’s Kate Bush. I enjoyed her 2009 album, "Two Suns," with its catchy "Daniel" and other songs that far outweigh the mediocre collection on “The Haunted Man." Bat for Lashes is often compared to other artists who I really dig like Tori and Siouxsie Sioux, and, maybe those comparisons were warranted after the release of Two Suns, but not so much now.
I found myself rushing through song after song, hoping that she would finally hit her stride. Alas, that never happened, and the only things I kept thinking were, "So what?" and "Blah, blah, blah." I have a feeling some fans of Florence + the Machine may like this, but, if you do not count yourself among that group, pass this album up.
Songs that made me go "meh": "Lilies" and "Marilyn"
